Introduction. The article is emphasized that one of the factors that are currently inhibit the effectiveness of palliative care services in Ukraine is the lack of qualification training both medical and social workers to work with elderly people with severe chronic diseases. Therefore, one of the most important tasks of training future social workers at the present stage of development of Ukrainian society is the proper organization of training of students on issues of palliative and hospice care.

Purpose. To examine the general issues of training and education of future social workers in the questions of palliative and hospice help in the conditions of higher educational establishment.

Results. The complex of the proper measures (help in self-service of an incurable patient; supervision on the state of their health; assistance the grant of medical services; help in providing of rehabilitation; education of family members; psychological support of person and its family members; to grant information on questions of social defence of population; help in the receipt of legal aid; organization and support of self-help groups) in Ukraine got the name «social service of palliative care».

Possibility of such training is presented within the discipline called «Social and Medical Care Patronage» as an example curriculum for students of a specialty «Social work» of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University at Cherkasy. The course is designed for 72 hours, which contain 12 hours of lectures, 14 hours of practical classes and 46 hours of independent work of students. View the final control is examination. The content of the discipline «Social and Medical Care Patronage» includes questions about the care of incurable patients and patients with different types of pathologies.

Originality. We believe that such saturation with medical knowledge is necessary for future bachelors of social work in order to be ready for the coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team composed of hospice and helping medical professionals in matters of teaching and counseling patients and their relatives.

Conclusion. Thus, in the process of studying the discipline "Social and Medical Care Patronage" future social workers master the methods and techniques of socio-medical work with different clients, either healthy and sick people (including incurable). But in order to develop at least the basic level of readiness of students to provide palliative care service, it is also important to provide them with an opportunity to consolidate and improve their knowledge with a corresponding manufacturing practice.
